nightime

Last night's pictures didn't come out too well. I'm still trying to play around with lighting during night time shots. I wanted to focus on the color of the fog but realized that the unfocused buildings and building signs looked blah. Don't worry, there's worse to come.


I wanted to take a picture of this structure but knew from this picture that it was too dark.

So I took this picture with a slower shutter speed, but my damn shaky hands made it blurry.

There was a mini carnival thing they had by the bowling place in Daly City and I dropped by at around closing time and took some snaps.

That thing would be cool if it the clown weren't so creepy.

Everything else I took didn't look good enough so I deleted them. Most of these shots were taken on Manual mode though with manual focus because I feel the auto adjustment time took way too long and required the flash. I got to keep learning.

The colors are better here, but the picture doesn't look as nice. Flash just makes such an artificial light.

Pictures again of the previous day. Honestly, I think it makes more sense to post those in terms of time preservation.

HA. Fooled you. There's no more pictures of food, just crappy photos I took.

It has been pretty warm and sunny lately. I took this before noon. The blue of the sky is nice though everything else looked kinda crappy.

There are these vegetables that my aunt is growing in our backyard and I've eaten them for years but I have no idea of its name. I tried to google it but the results of "green spiky vegetable" and "chinese green spiky vegetable" ... scratch that. My sister says it's called Chayote. Apparently it's not always spiky and it is not native to Asia. More Southern American. You learn something new every day.

My homies picked me up later and we went to get burritos. Thus, was the picture of the chips. This picture I took on the way back to their place. I didn't check the exact settings but I'm sure it was on P and the image was too dark to take a quick shutter snap. Thus, crazy raving light show.

Some are more... eccentric than others... but I wouldn't have them any other way

My cousin took this one while we were passing through Chinatown. I've never taken a black and white picture with this camera and it looks cool. It's a little to dark though.

We were attempting to play with the aperture and focus so that one object would be focused on and everything else blurry and he took a picture of the ninja hanging in the car.

Here was my attempt. Need to learn to take it by rule of thirds.

This wasn't a snap I took yesterday but it was one from the previous day. My friend mentioned that there was noise and wondered what it would look like if I were to change it to black and white. Interesting. Damn that speck though...

I had some snaps I took yesterday that I didn't post. One I really like was this one:

I was playing with the shutter speed again but this time in whatever daylight I had in my room. Of course, my messy bed and clothes are there, but I really like the brightness on the top right. Reminds me of pictures in Ikea ads. Not to say anywhere as good though...


Here's a snap of my little demon niece. Why is it that kids only look cute in pictures? It's not fair I tell you, just not fair.

After jogging in Pacifica, I decided to get some shoot time by the pier. I really gotta find a way to make sharper contrasts. Means I gotta read up more about it.

The annual fogfest is usually held in Pacifica. I missed it this year.

So I met some birds there... (was a little disappointed by this one. I had the lens on manual focus and couldn't adjust in time)

They're coming right for us!(if you notice, there's a little black speck on the bottom right of some of my pictures. It's a speck of something I eventually wiped off, but it tells me I should have my lens wipe at all times)

They move onto their next kill... my car.

Day and Night

I took some pictures last night while playing with a manual shutter speed. Dude. I think it is totally rad. I am such a newbie that I think the silliest things are cool.

The night light on manual delayed shutter... yes, I have a night light and no, I don't need one at night because I'm afraid of the dark... it just keeps the monsters away

It seems to make sense to me that the longer the shutter stays open and is delayed, the more light it takes in. However, there seems to be more "noise"(don't know if I am using that term correctly here) at the same time. As the shutter becomes faster, the nightlight becomes more distinct. I tried to take a picture of it at the highest shutter speed, but there was just darkness.

I figured that if this works on the nightlight, I wonder how the backyard would look with a manual shutter delay.


Granted that this was taken behind a fenced window and with no tripod, it is still pretty amazing. This was taken at 11:30pm last night and no, there was no fire and no, it is not that bright outside. The manual shutter makes such a difference!
